Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Today is the beginning of the second week of the 2014 Legislative Session. We started the day with the resolution to Dr. Martin Luther King Junior, commemorating Children's Day, and welcoming three new members of the Republican caucus. You can find out more about these events on our caucus website: houserepublicans.wa.gov.
This session is even busier than the last due to my recent placement on the Government Accountability and Oversight committee. I am honored by the faith and trust which the Republican Caucus has shown by awarding me with four influential committees, a heavy workload for any Representative. My new committee considers issues relating to the organization and structure of state government, fiscal and performance audits and the regulation and oversight of liquor, tobacco, gambling and marijuana. My schedule is very demanding with this new appointment, but I will work hard on your behalf to represent the 18th Legislative District well. I will always have the needs of our community at the forefront of my mind.
This week the following bills of interest will be heard:
Tuesday, Jan. 21:
- House Bill 2262, Use of Science to Support Significant Agency Actions.
This bill will have a public hearing at 10:00 a.m. in House Hearing room C. I plan to support this bill.
- House Bill 2258, Clarity for Independent Contractors.
This bill will have a public hearing at 1:30 p.m. in House Hearing room D. I intend to support this legislation also.
- House Bill 2334, Independent Contractors and the Underground Economy.
This bill will have a public hearing 1:30 p.m. in House Hearing room D. I will oppose this legislative proposal.
Friday, Jan. 24:
- House Bill 2238, Mandatory Paid Vacation Leave.
This bill will have a public hearing at 1:30 p.m. in House Hearing room D. I am opposed to this bill.
For the next 52 days, I will be sending e-newsletters like this one weekly. Please feel free to pass this information along to anyone who would like to start receiving the newsletter and let them know they can sign-up here. My door is always open and I appreciate hearing from you.
