Dear Friends and Neighbors,
This is just a quick note to let you know that due to election-year restrictions, this will be my last e-mail update until after November. Under the provisions of a 1991 law (created by Initiative 134), there are limits on what I can mail and e-mail. After this update, the soonest I can send another is just before the 2015 legislative session.
However, the initiative does permit me to respond to your direct requests for information, and we encourage you to write or call whenever you have a question or a comment to share on legislation or other matters. Please be sure to be clear that you would like a response from my office to ensure I am not contacting you outside of the ethics provisions explained above.
Washington state has chosen to institute a part-time Legislature made up of regular citizens, real people with real life experiences creating laws that we, too, have to live under. Like my fellow representatives, I leave my home, family and job during session so that I can represent the good people of the 18th District. The interim is when I am able to return home to my family and earning a living in the private sector. However, while I'm home doing all the things other families are doing I am also able listen to residents at local meetings, in the grocery store, or wherever.
I hope to see many of you while I am out-and-about in our district. During the interim I plan to meet with our school districts, non-profits, local governments, businesses and as many individual citizens as possible. These meetings and visits help me better understand the challenges and successes in our communities, making me a better legislator and neighbor. The best ideas come from constituents not legislators and I look forward to hearing about the issues and ideas that are important to you.
