I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Session is just around the corner and is scheduled to begin Jan. 11, and I wanted to send one last email update before people get too busy with holiday festivities.
Two weeks ago, lawmakers were called back to Olympia for annual committee assembly days — two days each year during the interim where committees meet to discuss issues ahead in 2016. I currently serve as the ranking member on the House Business and Financial Services Committee, as well as on the House Commerce and Gaming and Finance committees. We covered a variety of topics over those two days, ranging from insurance and working toward policies that provide people and companies the protections they need, updates from agencies and staff, to tax expenditure reporting and more. We were also presented with our state's latest revenue forecast; things continue to look up, as revenues sit at an increase of 10.5 percent above last biennium. There's still more to do to improve our economy and ensure employers have an environment that allows them to provide well-paying jobs that benefit our communities.
Legislative assembly days also allow me time to work directly with legislative staff, stakeholders and colleagues on potential bills to pursue during the upcoming session. I'll have much more on my sponsored legislation in my next email, and I look forward to your calls, emails and letters on additional ideas for improving the lives of our friends and neighbors in our communities. The best bill ideas really do come from people at home.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out this interim with questions, suggestions and concerns. I appreciate the time people have taken out of their busy summer and fall schedules to discuss the many important issues facing our district with me. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve you in the state House of Representatives.
Wishing you a very happy holiday season!
